After completing degrees in pure mathematics and philosophy Tess Guthrie worked in both the not-for-profit as well as private sectors as a researcher and analyst before launching WhyHive in 2018.
Tess worked in the Philosophy and Cognition Lab at Monash University in interdisciplinary consciousness research, speaking at the Australiasian Cognitive Neuroscience Society Conference in 2018. She also worked on the Individual Deprivation Measure team at the International Women’s Development agency to support them quantitatively in building a new holistic measure of poverty.
While working in the not-for-profit sector she recognised a need for consulting expertise that was often not affordable to organisations. Even when investing in advice and analytics could greatly improve their effectiveness. WhyHive was built on Tess’s passion for gender equality, and works to both engage women in STEM and offer support to charities committed to empowering women and ending gender violence.
Tess is also an accomplished musician, having toured the East Coast and featured on Triple J. Gender advocacy is a central part of her music.
