Paula is Professor of Work and Organisation and Director of the Work/Industry Futures Research Program in the QUT Business School. Her research adopts an interdisciplinary, systems-level approach to the study of complex problems at the intersection of business and society. She has been awarded major competitive and commercial research grants worth $2.5m, collaborating with diverse organisational partners from the public sector e.g. human rights, education, local government, defence; private sector e.g. banking, finance; and community sector e.g. ECEC, employment advocacy, youth services.
Paula has published three books and 66 academic journal articles and has actively shaped public debates in her areas of expertise through extensive media engagement and invited seminars to diverse non-academic audiences. She has been invited or elected to senior university committees which span the governance areas of university strategy, research ethics, promotions, misconduct, budgeting and student engagement. Prior to an academic career, Paula held clinical and research roles in child and adolescent psychiatry, medical education, primary care and public health. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK, a member of the National Work and Family Roundtable and a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
