Jan is one of the rare few survivors of a romance scam who has the courage to speak up, and she does – loudly, eloquently and frequently especially in her latest book Romance Scam Survivor: the whole sordid story!
Qualifications
In 2012 Jan lost over $260,000 in a romance scam. Early in 2015 she set up a support group for other victims, created a blog (http://romancescamsurvivor.org), and became an Ambassador for the Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network (ACORN). She regularly speaks to the press, TV, and community groups. She has become the face of an internet scam victim in Australia, and is an active advocate for other victims. She also provides peer counselling to victims and their families.Jan comments that going public “allowed me to regain my self respect”, because she was no longer hiding in shame about her experience.
She has now published a book of her experience Romance Scam Survivor: the whole sordid story, available in paperback and eBook.
